EUCHARITIC ADORATION Christian Family Movement Arts & Environment Altar Serving MINISTRIES HOME Contemplative Prayer Lectors Eucharistic Ministers Eucharistic Adoration Ministers of Care Ministry of Prayer Ushers Sacristans Music Ministry Greeters The mission of the Eucharistic Adoration ministry is to provide a quiet time and place for prayer in the presence of the Lord’s host, the Eucharist. To re-invigorate adoration in the worldwide church as urged by Pope John Paul II, St. John Newman provides a solemn space for prayer and adoration each Wednesday from 5-7:30pm on our St. Joan of Arc campus. Persons of all ages are welcome to join in this time of reverence and to experience a close encounter with the Eucharist, which is on the altar during this time. Sometimes described as an opportunity for a deeper encounter with inner beliefs, Adoration can be a time to settle and focus on faith and experience a unique relationship to prayer.
- LENT | Newman Parish
& & LENT AT ST. JOHN NEWMAN PARISH Easter Schedule Holy Week Schedule Lenten Opportunities Lent Lent is an annual 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22 and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday, April 6. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms ; and we practice self-control through fasting and abstinence. We are called not only to abstain from our preferences during Lent, but even more so to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's Will for us more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death and began a new life in Christ. Don’t let this be another Lent in your life where these traditions of the Church are merely words on a page. These Lenten practices can be so much more if we are willing to bring them to life. Why not consider this very Lent, as Pope Francis reminds us, to serve the poor. You can support the various ministries of our parish: the Soup Kitchen, Saint Vincent DePaul, Feed the Hungry and Saint Agnes of Bohemia Parish. Just contact the parish office if you need guidance.

ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS FAMILY OF FAITH CLOW RELIGIOUS EDUCATION O.C.I.A. ADULT FORMATION SERIES ADULT BIBLE STUDY Contact: Shawn Lucas | slucas@newmanparish.com 847-328-1430, x124 OCIA , or the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process with the Catholic Church for welcoming new members into the faith, particularly adults who are not yet baptized or those baptized in other Christian traditions. It's essentially a period of formation and discernment where individuals explore Catholic beliefs and practices, ultimately preparing them to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist). The OCIA process is designed to be gradual, respectful of individual journeys, and rooted in prayer, study, and community life. What OCIA involves: The process includes: Inquiry: Exploring the basics of the Catholic Faith Catechumenate: A period of learning about Catholic Beliefs, practices, and traditions. Purification and Enlightenment: A more intense period during Lent, leading up to the Easter Vigil Mystagogy: Post-baptismal catechesis where new Catholics reflect on their experience and grow in their faith. Interested in our Parish OCIA program? Please fill out this form. “The sacraments of Christian initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist – lay the foundations of every Christian life. “The sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development, and nourishing of natural life. The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1212) 2025-2026 O.C.I.A.
