For children wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation, we have parish programs to assist parents in preparing their children, as well as classes for parents wishing to have their children baptized. GIRL SCOUTS Girl Scouts Cub Scouts MINISTRIES HOME Knights of Columbus Men's Club Women's Club Youth & Young Adult Contacts: Lauren Carrane | lauren.m.heist@gmail.com Girl Scouts troupes based at St Athanasius work to build confidence, character and courage in the girls who come together to meet, earn badges and do community service. Scout meetings are held on the second and fourth Sundays during school months at 2 p.m. in the St. Athanasius School cafeteria. The fee to be a member is $50 per year. One special event the Girl Scouts take on each year is to collect socks for veterans. They also help with the Easter Egg Hunt on the church lawn on Easter Sunday.

PARISH COUNCIL Finance Council Development Committee Facilities & Maintenance MINISTRIES HOME Parish Council Unification Team School Board Contact: Adam McCostlin | adam.mccostlin@gmail.com The purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council is to engage the people and the pastor prayerfully in common reflection about the parish’s mission and ministries, and to plan and evaluate in light of the Gospel and church teaching. Council responsibilities include periodic reevaluation of the mission statement, assessing ongoing needs, defining parish goals, setting broad strategies to implement those goals, and evaluating the parish’s success in carrying out the Church’s mission. The Council meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Center. The Pastor appoints members to the Parish Pastoral Council. Matrimony arrangements made a year in advance allow for adequate reservation time, participation in marriage preparation programs, and liturgical planning.

EVENTS AT ST. JOHN NEWMAN PARISH What's Happening EVENTS Calendar Gallery At St. John Newman Parish, we have several organizations that foster both individual needs and the needs of the parish. St. John Newman is a fun, cohesive parish because of several reasons: church, school and all of the opportunities to connect with one another. Parishioners can share their time and talents, and enrich their lives and the lives of others, by becoming more involved in any of our parish organizations and activities. It is a great way to better come to know the people we sit with in the pews each week.

St. John Newman Parish is in need of Ministers of Care! This course is designed with the person in mind who is new to parish ministry. Each session will focus on a particular aspect of the Ministry of Care; however, the unifying thread woven through all is a commitment to helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to be a source of comfort to those who are sick. Completion of this course qualifies you to receive the Archdiocesan mandate to bring Communion to the sick, homebound and hospitalized of your parish. Fee, which includes a copy of Handbook for Ministers of Care, 3rd Edition will be paid for by St. John Newman. Questions? SCHOOL BOARD Finance Council Development Committee Facilities & Maintenance MINISTRIES HOME Parish Council Unification Team School Board Contact: Brian Lunt | brian.lunt@gmail.com The St. Athanasius School Board collaborates with the pastor and the principal to set specific goals for the school year. They periodically report to the parish and the school population on the school’s progress toward those goals. Board Meetings are held monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Hartke Room. Specific teams meet between regular board meetings to pursue designated topics including marketing, finance, curriculum, technology, and facilities and maintenance. Board members are elected. They serve a three-year term with about a third of the board members rolling off each year. Direct questions or concerns to the president of the board listed above.

The club and its members participate in the life of the church, are involved in the projects and ministries of the parish, and provide physical, emotional, spiritual and financial resources where and when they are needed. The club reaches out to the community, the archdiocese, and to society at large through service that reflects our role as disciples of Christ.
