- Funerals | Newman Parish
FUNERALS Confirmation Baptisms Anointing of the Sick SACRAMENTS Eucharist Funerals Matrimony Reconciliation Contact: Geri Fata | gfata@newmanparish.com Our prayers are with you as you prepare for the funeral liturgy. Our parish is fortunate to have a professional music staff. We are here to assist you in your faith journey and to ensure the transcendent beauty of the liturgy is sustained. Since the church funeral is usually a Mass, its structure and components are set by church history and practice. We handle all the planning, ensuring the liturgy will be beautiful. In addition to the organist/pianist, a staff cantor will be present to lead in song. At times, an experienced musician family member or friend may wish to contribute by singing a solo during this time. A prelude, offertory or Communion meditation selection would be welcome with approval from the Director of Music. Other than scheduling the Mass, you will not need to discuss any details of the Mass with the funeral home (readings, music, etc). The funeral homes do not always have the most up-to-date information regarding our procedures and customary practices. Therefore we cannot guarantee the accuracy of any information they might offer you regarding the funeral liturgy. If you would like to give input for the music, please select from the following: Entrance: O God, Our Help in Ages Past Amazing Grace I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say O God, Beyond All Praising Morning Has Broken The Strife Is O'er Entrance Antiphon: Give Him / Her Eternal Rest, O Lord Offertory: Pie Jesu The King of Love, My Shepherd Is Prayer of St. Francis Precious Lord, Take My Hand There is a Balm in Gilead What Wonderous Love Is This? Be Not Afraid Ave Maria Communion: Panis Angelicus I Am the Bread of Life I Receive the Living God Eye Has Not Seen Hidden Here Before Me / Adoro Te Devote Taste and See Closing: Sing With All the Saints in Glory Jerusalem, My Happy Home How Great Thou Art I Know That My Redeemer Lives Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee Jesus, Remember Me The parish music department utilizes our customary setting of the Mass Ordinary, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation and during the final prayers the Gregorian Chant, "In Paradisum." Please email James Brian Smith, the Director of Music/Organist with your questions or selections at jsmith@newmanparish.com or call the rectory at (847) 328-1430. organ_edited IMG_1794_edited Picture3 organ_edited 1/11

SPIRITUAL LIFE MINISTRIES Christian Family Movement Arts & Environment Altar Serving MINISTRIES HOME Contemplative Prayer Lectors Eucharistic Ministers Eucharistic Adoration Ministers of Care Ministry of Prayer Ushers Sacristans Music Ministry Greeters Right to Life As you reflect upon the gifts with which God has blessed you, please prayerfully if the Holy Spirit is nudging you to serve the parish at Mass. A host of opportunities are waiting for you here at St. John Newman Parish. For the liturgy to be celebrated well, and so that the People of God may be led to full, conscious, and active participation, many liturgical ministers are needed. Together with the priest, the ministers such as lectors, choir, extraordinary ministers of holy Communion, servers, and ushers, assist the assembly of the faithful in praying as the one Body of Christ in the liturgy, which means “the work of the people.” All liturgical ministers exist for the service of the Body of Christ, the People of God, the assembly gathered in God’s name. Although serving in any of these ministries should be a source of joy and satisfaction for individual people, these ministries exist for the benefit and service of the Church and not for individual or personal piety, spiritual growth, or status. As such, these ministries are regulated by Church and Liturgical law. Therefore, the pastor has the final approval of all liturgical ministers before they can begin service at the Mass.
