The St. Vincent de Paul Society is the oldest charity in Chicago. The Society’s primary purpose is to serve those in need. The website for the Society in Chicago is: www.svdpchicago.org.

The SVDP Conference at St. John Newman Parish serves needy families and individuals in Evanston and Skokie with short-term material assistance, such as help with rent, utilities, groceries, clothing and furniture. Our conference works closely with other local organizations to provide temporary support for those living on the edge of poverty and those who are experiencing a sudden, temporary financial set-back. SVDP funds come from special collections at masses in Evanston and Skokie, and from individual donations to the contribution box in the back of the churches. Donations can also be made online through Give Central.

Membership is open to all adult parishioners. The group meets the second and fourth Monday of the month (once a month in the summer) at 7:00pm in the School Cafeteria.
